Drewling Samantics
Drew and Sam are actors. They haven’t won any Academy Awards yet, and neither of them is in line to be the new James Bond (sorry Sam), but between them they do have over half a century’s worth of experience in the industry. Many months ago a combination of boredom, significantly reduced work opportunities (thanks pandemic!) and overactive and under-stimulated imaginations inspired them to create a podcast, and somehow they’re still at it. Join the Drewling Samantics chaps every Sunday (or download and listen later) as they give an entertaining insight into how their industry works - from modelling to voiceover, theatre to film, and television to streamed media, the gents talk about all areas of performance artistry, giving an insider view that is sometimes humorous, often eye-opening or poignant, and at times just downright strange! With regular guest appearances and the odd special ‘on location’ segment, Drewling Samantics brings something unique and fresh to the world of podcasts from two normal blokes, working in a rather abnormal industry.

You Scratch My Back
An episode about collaboration, brought to you by means of a collaboration! This week Drew and Sam are joined (albeit hiding behind all his fancy technical gear!) by past Drewling Samantics guest Phillip Lee, who, using his talents as a videographer and creator, helps record this latest podcast appearance of the boys at Sam’s flat - a rare but always welcomed in-person meeting for our presenting pair!
Drew and Sam have previously discussed the virtues and pitfalls of working for little or no money in the industry, and they revisit the subject this week to delve further into connected elements of that side of the business. Their conversation sees agreements and differences of opinion regarding passion projects, the promise of exposure, risk for producers and performers alike, and whether those not taking a wage truly ever benefit. It’s a topic that is always likely to be contentious, but it is also a part of the industry that will be ever present, and, no matter where they personally stand, or the views that are taken generically by anyone involved, Drew and Sam acknowledge it will never be easy to navigate.
And, easy or not to deal with, the subject is certainly fascinating, so with thanks to Phil’s expertise making them look better than ever, the chaps deliver another top quality episode on this and provocative and entertaining topic.
