Drewling Samantics
Drew and Sam are actors. They haven’t won any Academy Awards yet, and neither of them is in line to be the new James Bond (sorry Sam), but between them they do have over half a century’s worth of experience in the industry. Many months ago a combination of boredom, significantly reduced work opportunities (thanks pandemic!) and overactive and under-stimulated imaginations inspired them to create a podcast, and somehow they’re still at it. Join the Drewling Samantics chaps every Sunday (or download and listen later) as they give an entertaining insight into how their industry works - from modelling to voiceover, theatre to film, and television to streamed media, the gents talk about all areas of performance artistry, giving an insider view that is sometimes humorous, often eye-opening or poignant, and at times just downright strange! With regular guest appearances and the odd special ‘on location’ segment, Drewling Samantics brings something unique and fresh to the world of podcasts from two normal blokes, working in a rather abnormal industry.

S14E07 - Self Improv-ment
Self Improv-ment
Despite careful pre-planning and in-depth discussion, Drew and Sam readily admit that it may at times look as if they are making things up on the spot. In fact the content they bring us is frequently sporadic and “off-the-cuff”, but actually it’s fair to say that that’s part of the joy of Drewling Samantics. Yes, regardless of how much prep they’ve done, our podcast presenters never truly know for sure what will happen - especially when entertaining one of their fire-cracker guests! This week’s episode doesn’t have a visitor to bring unpredictability, so instead Drew and Sam (ironically) are making things up about making things up - it’s time to talk improvisation!
Improvisation is a very important and, more often than not, highly entertaining part of theatre, dance, comedy and various other performing arts. It can even be planned to some extent, which seems a weird contradiction, but improvisation shows and shows, sometimes focusing around a theme, are growing more and more popular, with a large part of the thrill is that audiences get to enjoy being part of or affecting the action. There are even plays and films that have been developed purely around improvisation, which in turn can result in something quite spectacular. Today the boys chat about their own experiences, from shows where improvisation played a major part, to those auditions and rehearsals where ‘improv’ (as it is commonly known) has been an important element.
So join the chaps now for another excellent episode that they couldn’t have planned better really - a show made up of making things up (and if that’s not Drewling Samantics we don’t know what is!)
