Drew and Sam are actors. They haven’t won any Academy Awards yet, and neither of them is in line to be the new James Bond (sorry Sam), but between them they do have over half a century’s worth of experience in the industry. Many months ago a combination of boredom, significantly reduced work opportunities (thanks pandemic!) and overactive and under-stimulated imaginations inspired them to create a podcast, and somehow they’re still at it. Join the Drewling Samantics chaps every Sunday (or download and listen later) as they give an entertaining insight into how their industry works - from modelling to voiceover, theatre to film, and television to streamed media, the gents talk about all areas of performance artistry, giving an insider view that is sometimes humorous, often eye-opening or poignant, and at times just downright strange! With regular guest appearances and the odd special ‘on location’ segment, Drewling Samantics brings something unique and fresh to the world of podcasts from two normal blokes, working in a rather abnormal industry.

In The Spotlight
This week there’s a VIE (Very Important Episode) coming from Drewling Samantics HQ, and not just because Drew and Sam are tackling a rather serious subject. Why then? Well, insert fanfare here - today’s is the two hundredth show! Yes, they said it couldn’t be done, there was no future, the boys must be fools… well actually no one said anything of the sort, but nonetheless our podcasting pair, along with their multitude of fabulous guests, have quietly totted up an amazing two hundred episodes! Through good times and hard times, during heavy work schedules and tours, and all while navigating various tricky and entertaining situations, topics and discussions, Drew and Sam have reached another Drewling Samantics recording milestone, and clearly they have enjoyed every single minute.
So, to today’s topic, and it’s one affecting many, if not nearly all professional creatives within the performance industry in the UK. This latest outing has the boys picking over the recent legal case between Equity, the actors’ union, and Spotlight, “the home of casting”, about fees for services provided, and their validity/justification. It’s a dispute that’s been going on for some time now, and a recent big development has resulted in a potential outcome which deserves to be delved into. Whether you are a member of one or both organisations, or know nothing of the events at all, it is an interesting and challenging subject, so will no doubt promote the thoughts and comments of Drewling Samantics fan, followers, listeners and watchers, as well as giving an insight into how the boys themselves are affected, and their opinions on the situation in general.
